Use Logic, Imagination and Creativity when you take notes

How to remember and utilize what you want to learn by taking notes

1. Hand writing notes improves comprehension and retention. Digital notes is convenient for searching and sharing but try to do hand written notes first.
2. Taking full transcripts (verbatum) of chapters or lectures is one of the worst ways of taking notes.
3. Split the page into right and left sections.
   1. Name the left section “capture” and name the right section “create”.
   2. The left side is for taking notes and the right side is for making notes.
   3. Left side of the brain is for logic.
   4. Right side of the brain is for imagination and creativity. On the right side, keep asking and answering questions like
      1. How can I use this?
      2. Why must I use this?
      3. When will I use this?
      4. How does this compare to what I already know?
      5. What questions do I have about this subject?
      6. Who do I want to teach this to?
      7. How does this relate to something else that I learned?
      8. How is this contradictory to something else that I learned?
