Desire
Most of our desires are not ours.
They are picked up from society based on what other people, friends, family members, classmates are doing, what my wife wants, etc. We copy those desires and we make them part of ourselves; and we drive forward and drive forward. Deep down, nobody is doing it for themselves. Everyone thinks they are fighting for a cause or they are helping out a downtrodden person or it is for their family, or some other reason like that. We create these constructs of desire that we copy from each other.
But what do we really need?
When it comes down to what we actually need, a little bit of food, a little bit of water, a small place to put your head down.
It is really important to sit down sometime, close the door, turn off the lights and just sit there by ourselves and watch our minds. Don’t judge it, argue with it, fight it. Just watch the thing run out of control. The mind is like a monkey that is running around flinging different things and throwing bananas everywhere. It is impossible to control. We should ask ourselves, how did we become like that? When we were children, it wasn’t like that. Look at any two-year old. They are not like that. They live very much in the moment. They don’t have a constant, uncontrollable thoughts about the past or the future. Thats what keeps them happy.
How can we uncondition our minds? How can we stop some of these things that we don’t want anymore running through our heads? It is possible but it is different for everybody.
